KATHALAYA COLOMBIA is a flourishing storyspace, in the tender care of Laura Zuleta Jaramillo. This has become a hub for books and stories for the children of the neighborhood, who come there every Saturday at 11AM for stories, fun activities and books. It has been growing steadily with more stories and more members every week. They are also working with many private schools with story narration . The four hour narration of LES MISERABLES , for 9th graders spread over four days had an amazing response.
Their story steps don’t stop here. They have a program with Cardiological Children´s hospital, where they read to children in Intensive Care, Transplants, Emergency room, and Oncology thrice a week, using puppets, picture stories, book reading and narration. They also work at a poor rural school in the mountains twice a month. Laura says,” I was invited once and told them i would go once again, but the response of the children was so amazing that we decided to go every fifteen days. It is work we do together with the teacher and itincludes narration of a story, pair reading, silent reading and teaching them to take care of their own small library.”
The cup of fulfilment overflowed when Laura won the prize at the Bogotá Narrative festival last year. In her words,” KATHALAYA has brought much happiness and enthusiasm not only to Mariana and myself but to the whole family. We are always following KATHALAYA INDIA in Facebook.”
We at Kathalaya feel great to be associated with you Laura. Wish you greater success in the journey with KATHALAYA STORYSPACES.
